Here at Buildadrive.com we install a range of driveway surfaces, one of the most popular surfaces to choose from is that of block paving. We offer a wide range of finishes to choose from, meaning whatever your requirements and specifications we’ll have a finish for you. But that aside what about the pattern?
After all installing a block paved driveway is more than just laying the stones in place in traditional lines. You can really make an eye catching driveway by speaking to the installers and deciding on a pattern that will work well with the space available.
There are a number of styles and patterns to consider:
Replicating that of a laid brick wall is called a stretcher bond or sometimes a stack pattern, this is a traditional method for installing a block paved driveway. Predominantly whole bricks are used in repeat patterns, which lends its self to a quick installation process.
Running bond is also a frequently used process, but offers some design element too. Laying bricks in a row with the longest side sitting longitudinally, followed by a second row of bricks laid almost identically, offset by the measurement of half a brick.
So what about stack bond paving?
A style of pattern that will create ultra-uniform, pretty much the same as above but with no offset between the rows of bricks. A very clean, crisp appearance for a driveway.
If it’s a more modern pattern you’re hoping to achieve then take a look at herringbone, a style that’s especially good under heavy traffic. A modern appealing driveway that has plenty of kerb appeal. The herringbone can be installed in a variety of ways depending on the angle of the laying of bricks that of 45- degree and 90-degree, both of which will add character to any driveway. The downside is the installation process does take longer as there it’s a time consuming process making sure each brick is installed to the correct degree.
Is you new block paved driveway going to send out a statement? An option of design that will do this with great impact is the basketweave. A style of pattern when mixed with a range of colours can be aesthetically pleasing.
If you imagine a criss-cross woven basket then this is how the driveway will appear, alternate pairs of vertical and horizontal blocks will stretch all across the driveway. However it is worth noting that these can slip out of alignment under heavy loads.
